Hey Everyone,
After some location confusion, we had a pretty short meeting on
Tuesday, so take time to read through the minutes!
Kacy Wothe
GAC Dems Secretary
In Attendance: Kacy Wothe, Danielle Harms, Stacy Sletten, Liam
Glover, Matt Pollari, Justin Martin, Isaac Weeks, Jill Surmeyer, Geoff
Alexander, Eric Nelson, Jon Carlson, Allan Johnson (who needed to
remind us he was a former president, in case y'all forgot), Jacob
Seamans, Carla Shutrop (liason from The Republicans), Galen Mitchell
I. Galen met with the Social Justice Coaltion
-they talked about activities during progressive week
-We hope to have more involvement with them throughout the semester
II. We need to table for t-shirts ASAP
-we will also be getting a new banner so we can "table respectively"
-it will be in cloth and waterproof ink (we have $40 left for
printing services, so $10 will be taken from our 9-line to cover all
the costs).
-Galen will start looking into dates to table
-We will hang a pre-order list for ordering shirts on the Dems
office door (people can send their $10 through the PO's to Jacob
Seamans)
-Galen will send the design to the list as soon as he has time
to finish it.
III. Website update from Matt
-current officers are updated
-He made it kinda pretty last fall by turning it from gray to blue...wow!
IV. P & P with the Greens will never happen....but, we will be
co-hosting one for the May Day Conference
-We will be getting extra money from Richard Leitch to pay for
the pizza (in addition to our normal fees) because all of the
ingredients will be local and made in the caf.
-The May Day conference committee will advertise, but we should as well
V. Judy Gow (I seriously need to ask someone how to spell that last
name) actually did get a hold of Peter (who was not there....) about
the Burton Dinner.
-Ruth Johnson is in charge, so we should have no problems
getting info or people!!
-Danielle suggested getting other people besides Burton dinner
attendees, but Eric said that usually didn't work in the past.
VI. Demfest- May 5th
-We need to start finding bands
-Perhaps involve theater (I AM WE ARE??) Jill Surmeyer ( a
member) said it may be possible.
-We want to get as many campus orgs involved as possible.
VII. Mirth Jam
-Put on by Line-us there will be improv comedy and bands on
March 11 at Alumni Hall
-all proceeds go to Third Floor Youth Center in St. Peter
-we can reserve a table there and sell our t-shirts.
VIII. Thank-a-thon
-College will pay student orgs $5/hour for every member it has
come write thankyou's to alumni who donate to the college
IX. Random Acts of Kindness Day
-Put on by APO on Weds, March 28th from 10:30-2:30
-They want all campus orgs to have a table in the Heritage Room
that supports random acts of kindness (ie: free massages, baked
goods, nice stuff...)
-start thinking of ideas for next meeting or email me (kwothe)
if you have something you think the dems could do
X. Social Events
-Although Eric is a fun hater (although I think democracy should
be a hater-free zone) he thinks the dems should have more social
events together...like bowling or something.
XI. Justin's report from the Republicans (p.s. we had a liason from
the Republicans at our meeting, which was awesome!)
-The republicans are going to do two things in March (which he
couldn't remember what)
-The President of the State College Republicans was there,
thanking them for all that they do.
-They approved their Constitution
XII. We're not exactly on speaking terms with the State College Dems
-However, they have a new president, so we need to contact them
XIII. Meeting Location
-Big thank you to PASO for cutting their meetings short, so FROM
NOW ON WE WILL BE MEETING IN THE BOARD ROOM AT 7:30-8:30 UNLESS
OTHERWISE SPECIFIED!!!
-Eric and Galen have communication issues.
XIV. Where is Lisa (the reason we are meeting Tuesday's)??????????????
