Hi, all:
The St. Peter precinct caucuses start at 7:00 p.m. I suggest getting there
around 6:45 or so. There is a brief registration and then you join the area
reserved for your precinct. Most Gustavus students are in the same precinct
(there will be maps showing each precinct). The caucuses will take over an
hour, I imagine.
One of the main items of business is to elect delegates to go to the county
convention (April 8 at the St. Peter High School) and the senate district
convention (May 6 in North Mankato). If you would like to be a delegate at
the state convention (in Rochester in June), you need to be elected as a
county convention delegate first.
People also bring resolutions that they would like to include in the state
DFL platform. These resolutions are discussed this evening. I imagine that
Gustavus students might have resolutions they would like to bring forward on
issues of particular concern to college students.
Candidates seeking the DFL endorsement will go to the precinct caucuses and
seek support.
Gustavus students were a powerful force during the 2004 precinct
caucuses....will history repeat itself :)
